Working on the Deck

The pictures tell it better than I can so here are my favorites from today.

Pete is using old and new pieces on the deck and it takes a lot of time to get it right. See windshield below.

Under deck floor boards

The floorboards are in place and the brass clip holds them in place.

This is finish work that will not be seen once the deck is on.

Decking

Pete has the new decking cut out and laid in place. The new mahogany will look great when varnished. Before the deck goes on some interior finish work will be completed: under deck floor boards.

Skip Gallaway came over to see how the progress on his father in laws boat was coming. I think he was planning a weekend on the water(from his expression). Don't worry, Skip, it will be ready to go with the weather.

The painting continues

The hull gets several coats of paint and is sanded between coats. The water line is taped to seperate the bronze bottom paint from the white hull paint.

Pete is very particular about the paint job. He is into perfection

Launching of the kayak

One year from the presentation of the anniversary kayak the boat was launched on Lake Ontario. The boat manuvers well and glides like a dream.

Paint time

The first coat of white paint goes on the hull. The project moves forward.

Note the new splash guard on the left.

Bottoms up

Now the boat is turned over. The new keel is in place and the boat is masked for the first coat of paint.

Good bye old paint

Stripping and sanding the old hull takes time but is well worth the effort.Once the old paint is gone the boat will be turned over and the new keel installed.
